Amazon Advertising Benchmarks 2026: ACOS, CPC, and ROAS by Category
"Is my ACOS good?" is the question we get more than any other, and it's almost never the question that matters. A 30% ACOS can be the most profitable line on your P&L or the reason your margin disappeared, and the number by itself won't tell you which one you're looking at. What follows are the Amazon advertising benchmarks for 2026 we see across the 100+ brands we manage, and the context that makes them worth anything.
If you'd rather have an operator read your account against these numbers than do it alone, that's the job our Amazon PPC management team does every month.

What These Benchmarks Actually Tell You
A few things to keep in mind before you panic (or celebrate):
ACOS without context is meaningless. A 35% ACOS on a product with 70% gross margin is wildly profitable. A 15% ACOS on a product with 20% margin is barely breaking even. Always evaluate ACOS against your unit economics.
TACOS matters more than ACOS. Total Advertising Cost of Sale, your ad spend divided by total revenue (not just ad-attributed revenue), gives you a clearer picture of advertising efficiency. Strong brands we manage run TACOS between 8-15%.
CPC trends are up across the board. Average CPCs have increased 12-18% year-over-year depending on category. More advertisers, more competition, higher costs. The brands winning in 2026 are the ones offsetting CPC inflation with better conversion rates through superior listings and creative.
How to Use These Amazon Advertising Benchmarks
Don't chase someone else's numbers. Use these benchmarks to identify where you're significantly over or under-indexing, then investigate why. A CPC well above your category average might mean you're targeting overly competitive keywords. An ACOS well below average might mean you're not spending aggressively enough to capture market share.
What a Benchmark Can't Tell You
Category averages get built from accounts with different margins, different catalog depth, and different competitive pressure. Yours is none of those accounts. In our experience running ad spend across a multi-channel portfolio, the most expensive mistake isn't an ACOS that sits above the category average. It's cutting the spend that was quietly holding organic rank, watching ACOS improve, and watching total sales fall the following month.
That's the honest limit of a benchmark. It can tell you that you're an outlier. It can't tell you whether being one is costing you anything.
What it looks like when the read goes the other way: a home and kitchen brand we manage was running conservative, keyword-only targeting and holding a comfortable ACOS. Comfortable was the problem. Widening the daily ad window and adding category and competitor targeting produced a 109% sales increase in a single month, with attributed sales up 190% and orders up 197%. Nothing about their old ACOS looked broken on a benchmark table.
Want Your Account Read Against Your Category?
Our Amazon PPC management team benchmarks every client monthly against category data and against their own margin structure, which is the half most benchmark posts skip. Book a call and we'll tell you which of your numbers are genuinely off and which ones only look off.
Know your margins first. The benchmarks are a starting point for a better question, not an answer.
